How do I register a company in Barbados as a foreign owner?
Aythawn Law · Published 18 September 2026
The short answerBarbados allows full foreign ownership of a local company. Incorporation itself is a matter of days once the name is cleared. Everything around it — banking, licensing, tax registration — is what sets your real start date.
Choosing the structure
Domestic company — trading locally, standard corporate tax treatment
External company — a branch of an existing foreign entity
Society with restricted liability — often used for cross-border holdings
The steps
Name search and reservation
Articles of incorporation filed with Corporate Affairs
Registered office address in Barbados confirmed
Directors, officers and beneficial owners recorded
Tax and, where applicable, VAT registration
Bank account opened and due diligence completed
Sector licences or permits obtained before trading
The two things that slow people down
Bank onboarding is the first. Expect thorough due diligence on source of funds and on every beneficial owner. The second is staffing: if you plan to bring in non-national employees, work permits run on their own timetable and should start early.
Sequence it properlyIncorporate, then bank, then licence, then hire. Attempting them in parallel usually means redoing paperwork.
